Training Course - Spatial Data Analysis

Call for Participation in Training Course:

“Spatial Data Analysis”

September 23-27, 2024, Agricultural University of Tirana

The Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) and the Leibniz-Institute for Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) are pleased to announce the upcoming course “Spatial Data Analysis”. The course will equip participants with advanced skills in diverse tools of spatial data analysis and automation of GIS workflows.

This course is organised by the Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) and the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) within the project Establishing a Geoinformation Centre for the Western Balkans (GEO-WB6, geo-wb6.net), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). The project aims to improve the EU accession process regarding negotiating Chapter 11 (Agriculture and Rural Development). Specifically, the project aims to strengthen technical capacities to manage and analyse geodata in agriculture and natural resource management and to strengthen the regional network of geoinformation experts in the Western Balkans.

Course Highlights:

• Time: September 23-27, 2024 (five full days)
• Place: Agricultural University of Tirana, Kodër-Kamëz, Tirana
• Eligibility: The course is open to all students, lecturers, researchers, and professionals in agriculture and related fields who study or work in one of the six Western Balkan countries and who have an interest in GIS and spatial data analysis. Participants must be fluent in English and bring their laptops. Previous experience in GIS is an asset but is not required.

Course Contents:

• Editing and querying of attribute tables, selecting data by location
• Vector Data Analysis: Buffer, Intersect, Union, Dissolve, Clip, etc.
• Raster Data Analysis: Reclassification, Map Algebra, Zonal Statistics, etc.
• Automation of GIS workflows
• Practical applications: Real-world case studies and hands-on exercises.

What we offer:

• A state-of-the-art training course free of charge, using the open-source software QGIS.
• Facilitation by experienced lecturers and researchers.
• An official course certificate issued by AUT and IAMO.
• Travel scholarships of 250 € for course participants from institutions located outside Albania.
